New Eric Sarmiento single, video and YACHT and the age of the triangle

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Eric has just released a new single Alejandra Told Me/Hypnosis! Both tunes are really good and are available on all of your favorite digital retailers (iTunes, emusic etc.). They are the lead off hitters in our new Alchemist Records series of singles that will be dribbling out through out the year and beyond. I particularly like the B side Hypnosis. It reminds me of sleeping in the back of a car as a child, waking up and not knowing where you are.

Here is a Jeff Palmer directed video for Alejandra and Eric says that he has a Hypnosis video coming soon.

I’m working on a few tunes that didn’t make it on to the new album that will probably come out as singles later this year. Is the album dead? I don’t think so but it is hard to compete with the shuffle button.

In other news YACHT is coming out with a new record this summer on one of my favorite labels DFA! The artwork is supposed to be holographic and looks like it will be pretty rad. Don’t look if you are prone to flashing light induced illness. They have a weird little thing up on their mystery lights site about triangles. Kind of reminds me of Be Here Now. On my way up to the teaching studio I heard this interesting little story on NPR about a new album that is entirely Zydeco solo triangle music. What I heard sounded interesting and seemed to further YACHT’s notion that this is the dawning of the age of the TRIANGLE….

The French band Phoenix’s excellent album Alphabetical didn’t get what I felt was it’s due critical praise, especially here in the states. A lot of people and reviewers got on board though with the last album “It’s Never Been Like That” and now it seems that the Phoenix loving chorus is growing even louder in anticipation of their new soon to be released album “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix”. Last nights Saturday Night Live appearance was one of the best and freshest seeming performances on the show that I’ve seen in a while (granted, I have seen many.)  I’ve been hooked ever since seeing this video for the first time. Viva Phoenix.
