It’s here

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Well the day has finally arrived, my second long player “White Noise/Black Music” is officially out on the streets! It has been a really long, long, long journey upon which there were times when I thought it might never be completed. “I’ve bled when there was nothing left to bleed”! But now it’s here and I am really happy with the way things have turned out and with the finished work. I really appreciate the warm reception that I’ve been receiving from blogs and radio stations that have been willing to give a record from a small collective label without a big advertising/payola budget a listen and then to support it! These people are the true seekers of what is new and adventurous in the world of modern music. Thanks and praises!

In honor of the release, here is an “internal” interview conducted by Alchemist Records for the sake of gathering info. for press releases. Excerpts have been scattered around the web but here it is in it’s entirety. Let me know what you think about the record.

1) making WNBM took quite some time — in what ways would you say your music, and your approach to recording and writing have changed over the last couple of years?

This process has gone on so long that I think I have completed about 3 or 4 albums worth of material and concepts. Originally I was intending to go with a more live instruments only, song oriented approach but over the course of time it evolved into more of it’s finished state: A hybrid between the aforementioned concept and more computer based experimentation as the basis of the song writing. I also decided after the first album that I wanted to take more time on this one and make sure that it was something I could live with for a long time. This approach allowed me to step back and look at the things that had an eternal appeal and those elements which were more transitory and frivolous. It was almost like making a painting by adding a few careful strokes every day and then stepping back and observing the whole canvas. The only difference being that with digital technology one is afforded the luxury of taking a snapshot of one section of the canvas and then making that into a whole new painting. Or replacing one color with another. The songs that are on the finished record are often miles apart from their original incarnations. I think that is an essential element of what makes the album what it is.

Wordle is a fun little bijou of a website that produces word clouds. Below are 4 versions of the entire lyrics of WN/BM. Click each for a larger view and songs from the record. Maybe a new shirt is in the works?
