Here’s the review that Preston Jones of OK Gazette wrote about the album at the time. The Gazette’s online archive doesn’t go back very far so I thought I’d post it here:

2121 (quiet night mix)
Sunday, February 21st, 2010Continuing with this look back at the recording and release of “We Are”, here is an alternate mix of 2121 that pulls back some of the flesh of the song to reveal the skeleton. It also has parts that weren’t used in the final version. It’s a bit erratic but hopefully has enough interesting bits for you. Download it below the player.

Bob Dylan High
Thursday, February 18th, 2010Here’s another outtake from the “We Are” era, this one is a weird little instrumental/noise/spoken word kind of thing. It would have been an interlude like “(Sound at)The Speed of Light” but I guess I cut it for brevity’s sake. It was inspired by a Philosophy teacher I had who was a really cool cat. He had us read Carlos Castaneda, Spinoza and listen to Dylan. He also wanted to name the new High School “Bob Dylan High” unfortunately they opted for the much more pedestrian, Norman North! Here’s the track:

We Are digital release
Monday, February 15th, 2010This year marks the 5th anniversary of I and I! My first record “We Are” came out way back in ‘05. Next Tuesday the 23rd “We Are” will finally be getting a proper digital release via Alchemist Records. The album has been remastered and over the next week I’ll post some out takes and random stuff from that era.
Here’s a weird track that didn’t make the album cut though the synth riff got incorporated into “Electrical”.

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010Spoon “Written in Reverse”
Sunday, February 7th, 2010Spoon rules! After the first few listens, the new record “Transference” seemed like a let down from their previous album “Ga Ga Ga Ga” but, like most of my favorite albums, over time my appreciation has grown. Spoon is a band that somehow manages to sound like it’s always evolving but at the same time not changing very much. Luckily that unchanging part is that of a earnest Rock band making earnest music in a time when that’s becoming rare. They carry on the tradition of some of the great Rock combos like the Stones, Kinks, Beatles, etc., not as a retro fetish mimicking act but as a thoroughly modern and contemporary one. This new video for “Written in Reverse” is a great live version of the track that showcases what the band is all about.
