Nikolas and co. of Kite Flying Robot are a hard working band that specializes in nice and easy New Wave/80’s inspired indie pop. With this track ‘Red Phone Booth’ (title reminiscent of OMD’s awesome ‘Red Frame/White Light‘) they display a knack for writing a solid little tune and turning in a nice video to match. Super catchy bass hook, nice vocal and synth melodies and really well placed/reserved claps make this one of those songs that gets stuck in you. There’s a certain humility and straightforwardness that I like about their whole thing too. No hidden agenda or hipster posturing, just good times. Sure you could argue that it’s a little too safely in MOR territory but hey sometimes cruisin down the middle lane in your proverbial supped up Fiero just feels right and the level of craftsmanship here indicates that if these Robots were to venture off the road into the danger of the wilderness or the desolation of the deserts they may have something to really look out for.
