Dikolson lp out now

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

The previously mentioned debut LP from my Czech friend Filip Misek’s Dikolson project is out today. I co-wrote and sang on one of the tracks (9. You Are The Leaves). The whole album showcases what a great ear and a truly creative approach Filip has. It is electronic music with soul, emotion, intelligence and passion. The record is available on a pretty looking bit of red vinyl and as a digital download from Prague based Minority Records. Stream it here and purchase a copy here.

The Alpha Future 5/31/11

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

After some shifting around I can finally announce that the new album will be called The Alpha Future and it’ll be out May 31st on Alchemist. It’ll be available as a limited edition CD, cassette and digital. Written and recorded before and shortly after the Norway trip of late ‘09, I used the live experience to try to make an album based on that kind of set up. With all of the I and I albums I have relied for the most part on a process of being guided by intuition and experimentation rather than well planned, constructed and conceptually driven music. This one took that to a new level and kind of came out all of the sudden with most of the recording being completed in 3 months or so (compared to 3 years spent making White Noise/Black Music). The title was inspired by my father Rob F. Sarmiento’s Alpha Future concept. I hope to feature some posts here with more info., photos, song previews etc. Here’s the album cover and tracklist:

1. The Future Is Long
2. 1=1
3. Go
4. Soft Science
5. Should Have Been A Beekeeper
6. Headcleaner
7. Illusions
8. The Hardest Part
9. Jaws Of Life
10. Getting Rounder

New Alchemist tape by GDC out now

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

In the words of the astute blog Auxiliary Out, “Vermont pop genius Zach Phillips (Horse Boys, Sord, Nals Goring, OSR Tapes etc.) has delivered unto us a motherf***in’ faux-French masterpiece”. This incredibly unique c30 cassette is now available for a mere 7$ here from the Alchemist collective. Written and recorded in a mere 8 days this tape is part of the prodigious output of 12 albums that Zach has been streaming out over the last year under many different guises and on many different labels including Feeding Tube, Night People and his own OSR tapes. I’m stoked to be putting out what stands as one of his most brilliant and accessible albums. This will apparently be the one and only album to bear the GDC name and this is an edition of 100 so get one whilst the getting is good. For more information on the world that is Zach Phillips see his blog and if you haven’t done it yet, check out this standout track and attune your eyeballs to some photos of the tapes in all of their multi-hued glory (designed by yours truly):

BAnanas Symphony HOlidaze

Thursday, December 9th, 2010

2010 has been a good year for the collective label that I’m a part of. We have some great new artist that have come on board like Atlantic At Pacific, Illus Ocean, Local Winds and now we have a late but great addition to the crew: BAnanas Symphony. As a debut/introduction we’ve got a radical free holiday song from the dude. Check it out and pass it along. The gurgling liquid in the beginning is where he adds some Real to the idea of the holiday classic. I designed the cover using some experimental holiday light photos that I took awhile back.
