The sad and tragic events in Norway of late have made me nostalgic about my trip/tour there in late ‘09. I found it to be a wonderful, beautiful and welcoming place. Here’s some photos of my journey. Lenge leve Norge!

Bombay/España/El Guincho
Thursday, September 23rd, 2010I must admit, I didn’t really “get” El Guincho’s album “Alegranza” until listening to it on a train ride from Barcelona to Zaragoza. Looking out over ancient buildings covered in graffiti, blue mountains rising up from rainbow showered plains full of small farm plots surrounded by archaic looking weeds, the music suddenly made sense and provided the perfect soundtrack to the passing countryside. The mix of history, cultura, scenery, architecture and innovative creativity make Spain one of the most incredible places I’ve visited and El Guincho seems to be good at encapsulating that into sound. This mind blowing video takes that to a whole new place! The Sagan-esque intro is pretty awesome too. (NSFW or kids/parents?)

Thursday, January 28th, 2010Untz Untz Records 12″ sampler out
Monday, November 30th, 2009The good fellows at Untz Untz Bergen who put on the Bergen show I played have their first vinyl sampler out! It features tracks by: Telephones, Velfred, Touchable Terrence, and Solli Diskoklubb. Apparently the Norwegian culture minister Anniken Huitfeldt had to say about Velferd’s – ‘Driveby’ track:
“Man tenker seg noe veldig traust sosialdemokratisk(om artistnavnet Velferd), men dette er jo veldig kult.” “Dette er ny Velferd, en veldig god velferd, som vi trenger nå.”
In English: “This is very cool. We need Velferd NOW.”
Can’t front on that! Read more and mail order a copy here. BTW say Untz Untz a couple of times and you’ll get the onomatopoeic nature of their name and something about their tunes.
