New Alchemist tape by GDC out now

Tuesday, March 29th, 2011

In the words of the astute blog Auxiliary Out, “Vermont pop genius Zach Phillips (Horse Boys, Sord, Nals Goring, OSR Tapes etc.) has delivered unto us a motherf***in’ faux-French masterpiece”. This incredibly unique c30 cassette is now available for a mere 7$ here from the Alchemist collective. Written and recorded in a mere 8 days this tape is part of the prodigious output of 12 albums that Zach has been streaming out over the last year under many different guises and on many different labels including Feeding Tube, Night People and his own OSR tapes. I’m stoked to be putting out what stands as one of his most brilliant and accessible albums. This will apparently be the one and only album to bear the GDC name and this is an edition of 100 so get one whilst the getting is good. For more information on the world that is Zach Phillips see his blog and if you haven’t done it yet, check out this standout track and attune your eyeballs to some photos of the tapes in all of their multi-hued glory (designed by yours truly):

An Oral Future/History of Alchemist Records Vol. 1

Monday, September 20th, 2010

I put together this Alchemist Records related mix for JJ of the nice blog Cool Deal/Cool Tapes.  His previous mixes have included one from Lefse Records so I think we’re in good company.  My mix is a fairly lengthy journey through both Alchemist Records music (past, present and future) and some tracks from my records and collection that highlight a variety of things that influence the aesthetic of our label.  There’s a few unreleased Alchemist tracks including one from Atlantic at Pacific, One In A Googolplex, yours truly (I and I), and new artists Lazr Hipoh.  Some of these will be on upcoming releases and some we are still not sure about so this may be your only chance to hear them.  There is also a slightly alternate mix of my brother Eric’s awesome track “So She Says” that will  get you pumped for his forthcoming (still untitled and somewhat mysterious) new record that will be out on the soon side.  The new track of mine that’s on the mix is called “Go” and will most likely be on the next album.  You can download/listen to the whole mix here or visit the Cool Tapes site and pick it up there along with JJ’s comments:

Free Alchemist Records Covers EP

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

Here is a little free 3 song EP of covers by myself, Eric Sarmiento and Kalpana and Illus Ocean.  I did an interpretation of Swedish troubadour The Tallest Man On Earth’s excellent song “I Won’t Be Found”.  Eric and Kalpana’s version of Radiohead’s “House of Cards” is a cool summertime jam to soothe the sun baked soul and Illus Ocean does a 10cc inspired take on Alchemists’ own The Pistol Arrows “Tangled and Strangled”.

Jeremy Cox remix + Satan

Sunday, September 13th, 2009

It’s been an intense few weeks but I’ve finally converted the alchemistrecords.com and this site into the world of Wordpress!  Now I look forward to using the system and more importantly getting back to making music.  Speaking of which here is a remix I did of the great Jeremy Cox’s song ‘Stormsweet’.  It’ll be out later this year along with a bunch of other Alchemist Records inter-label remixes.

I’m also excited to announce that the finishing plans are about made on an upcoming I and I Norwegian mini tour! More details on that to come. As of now there are 3 shows Oslo, Kristiansand, and Stavanger. I’ll leave you with a comedic video I came across thanks to Dean Avants.
